A bunch of Mexican bandits under
leadership of brutal Sanchez (Fernando Sancho) robs an US-american transport of money and kill all soldiers. But times are
rough and fun is short: Bountyhunter Hank Fellows (Craig Hill), named „Lanky“, bumps off Chief Sanchez firstly
and then kills his whole gang. For cash he gives back the money to the bank of Omaha. Rich mine owner Collins („Peter
Carter“) is impressed by the talents of the stranger. He engages Hank for 10.000 bucks to escort a transport of gold
from his goldmine to Omaha, because evil Gus Kennebeck („George Martin“) is interessed in the gold. A good opportunity
for Hank, who has to pick a bone with Kennebeck because of family affairs. Time of revenge has come as Kennebeck’s gang
is erased at the heist of the bank of Omaha.
The Gunslinger says:
Respect! This first directing
effort of Tonino Valerii out of 1966 really grooves. Tight atmosphere, great camera guidance (often shot through Hank‘s
telescopic sight) and a good, guitar-dominated score of Nico Fidenco result in an above-average film. Not to forget the strong
actors: Craig Hill once again convinces as a tough and cynical gunman, only living for money: After he has taken revenge and
all rewards, he shows no interest, as he observes, that another Mexican gang prepares the heist of another army transport.
He rides away without warning the escorting soldiers.
Rating: $$$$-
Bodycount: ca.
30 Gringos, ca. 47 Mexicans
Explicit brutalities:
- Sanchez‘ mobsters kill
all wounded US-soldiers before they ride away with the money
- Gus Kennebeck tortures his brother,
who works for Collins, with boiling coffee, in order to get a fistful of informations over the planned transport of gold
- The „good“ guys
under leadership of Hank „question“ Kennebeck-mobster Mingo (George Wang) about i.e. the planned bank robbery
Specials
- Hank’s rifle is supplied
with a telescopic sight, so he can kill Mexicans at wide range
- Fellows blows up the vault of
the bank inclusive the entering bandidos by lighting some dynamite with electric current
