Gunslinger Dan Murphy (Craig Hill) is a real bad egg. As Sheriff
Rogers (Jesús Puente) tries to arrest the rogue, he accidentally kills Murphy’s little son. For revenge Murphy kidnaps
the son of the sheriff. Together with his wife Miriam (Maria Fiè) the little family flees in another state to become honest
citizens. But their new home isn’t a castle. Firstly Sheriff Rogers still searchs the fugitive. Secondly there are the
brothers Carter, starting fights with nearly everybody. With Rogers Murphy comes relucting to an agreement: He gives back
the son, for that Rogers rips the warrant. The Carter problem is not so easy to solve. But as the youngest brother Charly
(Hugo Blanco) catches a piece of lead in a brawl, a nice little war starts: This offers the opportunity to Murphy to deal
with the problem at his own special way. As the fights have come to an end, frustration settles in the Murphy house: Dan wants
to return „his“ son back home and so he pays a last visit to Rogers.
The Gunslinger says:
Real entertainig stuff and probably the first film directed
by Rafael Romero Marchent in 1965. It lokks like a 60s-US-TV-series, but is made quite skillfully. Furthermore Marchent could
build on a capable staff. Unfortunately the story line with the two sons gets a raw deal against the revenge plot, because
it develops real tearjerker-qualities. All told: it’s probably one of the best Marchent-western I’ve seen so far
and Craig Hill is in my good books anyway.
Rating: $$$
Bodycount:
9 gringos, 1 woman
Explicit brutalities:
- The Carter-Gang gives the stick to Murphy , and even sweet Miriam
gets some blows on her little head.
- The Carters light the jail cube, wher saloon-owner Alex (Franciso
Sanz) is arrested, because he shot Charly Carter. Alex has to fetch the keys out of the flames – and they’re reeeealy
hot, folx,, lest he doesn’t burn alive. After his escape John Carter (José Guardiola) bumps him off because of fire
raising.
- Murphy enrichs the shootout with Davy Carter (Piero Lulli) with
a nice kick: two guns, only one is loaded with one bullet, the other is empty. Murphy cedes first choice and shooting to Davy.
Guess, who has the right one?
